Let’s start with some background. I used to sell suits and shoes for JCPenney and Kaufmann’s a while ago. These jobs helped me develop a sense of what looks good on a person, and what doesn’t. So, my bane (and angst) is often defined by this phrase:
“Business Casual”
Don’t get me wrong. I don’t think that everyone needs to wear a business suit all day long. Suits are not the answer to the business casual epidemic.
However, I do have a problem with Pleated Pants.
These should not be worn. Ever. By any person. Pleated pants represent a lot of wrong. In fact, they accent the parts of the male body that most people don’t want to accent. Let’s examine:
1. the hips – pleated pants are rounded in shape towards the top. This presents a weird outline when viewed on a person’s body.
2. the bulge – refer to the picture above. Pleated pants create an unnatural bulge in the front of the pants. In fact, this bulge is often referred to in snickering comments and horrified looks.
3. tapered legs – Pleated pants trim down to a tapered leg giving men an option of two looks. Men with any muscle have a drawn, tight appearance. Men with no muscles in their legs have a flabby, loose appearance. (funny, both of these images bring to mind the dead skin hanging off of a skeleton)
Tune in for part 2 of pleated pants…I’m done for now.
Jeff,
I don’t know if you’ll get this or not, but I laughed a good bit at this post, and others. I’m also enjoying following you lately on twitter. The next time I’m in OH (probably the week and weekend before Xmas), I’d love to get together.
Hope all is well, bro. Let me know what’s new.
